Professor starts with P.

I’ve got a professor whose lectures and recommendations are all in .docx.

I use Open Office, and cannot open .docx files.

I emailed him about the problem. He sent me to the helpdesk for the software we use for online classes. *rolls eyes* who, in turn, recommend that he save the file as .rtf, citing maximum tranferability.

Which, you know, sounds a lot like what I emailed the professor to request.

I has a friend!

I’d like to introduce you to my friend “Hi, my name is (insert name here).” She’s mother to two of Small Thing’s friends, a military wife and, more importantly, a darn fine person. I really like her and was blessed to meet her as we were entering the state and she and hers were leaving. Her oldest, like mine, is homeschooled, and smart as a whip. They are both Baby Geeks and they both wear glasses! We’ve traded contact info and, in fact, I wrote a blog on her site today, partly to be silly, partly to make sure she could stay in touch with me. I’ve blogrolled her (Congratulations Deldo, you’re the first) and though we’ll shortly be far away from each other, I think our friendship will survive it. :D

Oh and Deldo, I may not crochet but I DO knit and sew :P

Orson Scott Card Can Just Fuck Right off.

I am NOT a fan of profanity but in this case, it’s warranted. I am a big sci-fi/fantasy reader, but I’ll tell you that Orson Scott Card will NEVER get another dime from me.

You know who will though? Michael Swaim of Cracked.Com. I already loved the site, but this morning a friend showed me this: ”Throughout the history of America, and indeed in the course of any developing culture, the universal historical trend (with some notable, but temporary deviances) has been towards expanding rights for an expanding number of people. Women couldn’t vote, now they can. Blacks were treated like pack animals, now they get to live in the inner city and some of them own nice cars. The point is, PROGRESS… In a hundred years, flamboyant gay guys will be getting married in fabulous dresses on your grave, and there’s absolutely nothing you can do about it.

I don’t believe that everyone who is against gay marriage is a homophobe. I am aware that very often, people fear change and think it will bring society to an end. Quite frankly, though, I don’t believe Orson Scott Card falls under this category. I believe he is trying to push his personal phobias and hatreds off as political wisdom. And anytime someone wants to deny someone Civil Rights for this reason? FORGET IT. They’re done. Next please.

Proposal

This website will be dedicated to self-promotion, and prattle on Philosophy, Play, Pleasures and Purchases. The audience will be friends and strangers. I will be adding posts every week or less about neat occurences in our daily life, the words and drawings of my daughter Small Thing, my personal philosophy as it relates to the world around me, and sometimes neat notes about the store. I am doing this because I like expressing myself, and I have better luck doing so in writing than words.

I am doing a test post because First Steps With WordPress told me to. I think the next thing it says to do is go jump off a cliff….
